The $658 million Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre marks a major milestone in the transformation of paediatric healthcare across New South Wales. Delivered as part of the NSW Government’s investment in the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct, the project provides a world-class facility dedicated to improving outcomes for children and families.
The new 12-storey clinical, research and education facility, designed by BLP (Billard Leece Partnership) brings clinicians, researchers and educators together under one roof, creating an integrated environment designed to support innovative treatment, collaboration and medical discovery.
In a first for Australia, the facility integrates childhood cancer research with the clinical care of children with cancer, accelerating the translation of research discoveries into real improvements in patient care and positioning the centre as one of the world’s leading paediatric cancer facilities.
Key Features
The development includes a wide range of specialised facilities designed to support advanced paediatric care, including:
- A new children’s intensive care unit
- A new children’s emergency department
- Co-located research laboratories supporting the Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre
- A medical short stay unit
- A dedicated neurosciences centre
- A virtual care centre and hospital command centre (KidsHQ)
- Inpatient units supporting medical, surgical and sleep study services
- A day oncology centre and inpatient oncology units including a dedicated bone marrow transplant unit
- A children’s hospital pharmacy
- Education, training and clinical simulation spaces
The facility has also been thoughtfully designed to support children and their families during their hospital journey, featuring single patient bedrooms with carer beds and ensuites, indoor and outdoor recreation spaces, family retreat areas, and a new playground and pet visiting space.
Representing nearly 1.95 million construction hours, the project will also support the growth of paediatric services with a pipeline of approximately 500 specialist roles across the precinct.
