The brief for the laboratory bench system specified by the facility management was for a floor mounted approach serviced from the ceiling. Flexibility was paramount, driven by the high turnover of processing and testing equipment. The lab bench must adapt to the servicing and functional demands of a broad range of instrumentation essential to the facilities operation. The facility is made up of various departments each with individual requirements. The lab bench system should be consistent throughout yet adaptable to the differing functions.
KPD were engaged directly by the client to help determine the laboratory design brief for each department and produce solutions. The suite of interchangeable furniture components have since proven to provide the level of flexibility required to readily adapt without impacting on the continuity of production. A characteristic crucial to the essential blood service the Red Cross provides.
Laboratory storage cabinets and specialist laboratory services reticulation systems were also provided by KPD.
